The woman killed in the crossfire of a shooting at an Atlanta bar Saturday was the sister of a state senator, 11Alive has learned.
Taylor Hayden, 25, was shot in the parking lot of the Anchor Down Grille & Lounge on Piedmont Road around 5 a.m. Saturday, after two groups of men started shooting at each other. Hayden, police said, was a patron of the club and was struck in the arm and side from stray bullets.
Saturday evening, a family friend confirmed with 11Alive's sister station KARE 11 in Minneapolis that Hayden was the sister of Minnesota state Sen. Jeff Hayden.
After the news of the shooting, the senator reportedly took to his personal Facebook page and shared the news, writing "It is with a heavy heart that I report that my sister Taylor Hayden has been killed last night in Atlanta...Please pray for my family."
He also wrote that the gunfire was between two rival gangs, though that information hasn't been independently confirmed by 11Alive with Atlanta Police investigators.
The 25-year-old was a student at Prairie View A&M University in Texas and was visiting Atlanta, according to the family friend.
Police are still investigating the incident and do not have any suspects yet.
