Sad story coming out of Chicago as a man who was wrongly imprisoned for 17 years now gets shot to death in what police tell me may be an armed robbery. He got settlements from the government and lived a nice life. People perceived him as rich and then....he gets robbed for the second time but this time he's killed.

On the day he was finally released from prison after murder charges were dropped, Alprentiss Nash vowed he would use his freedom studying to become a chef, learning about antique cars and traveling.

And in the nearly three years since, he kept true to his word, visiting New Orleans, Miami and Atlanta and learning to ski at a resort in Wisconsin. He also bought a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 1960 Buick Electra 225 and completed a culinary program.

"He was really happy to be free, and he never talked about his time in prison," said Nash's mother, Yvette Martin. "He wanted to just get past it and be happy. He was overjoyed and excited about building a new life."

But on Tuesday afternoon, Nash's second chance at life came to a tragic end as he was gunned down while leaving a currency exchange in Chicago, according to Chicago police and his family. A person of interest is being questioned, authorities said.

Gunman kills 2, wounds 7 in Louisiana theater before taking own life - police

Another movie theater shooting ironically coming at a time when Colorado suspect James Holmes is going thru sentencing of his own mass shooting. Last night, it happened again and three people are dead inlcuding the shooter. The casualties could have been higher! OMG! Prayers

July 24 (Reuters) - A lone gunman opened fire inside a crowded movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Thursday evening, killing two people and injuring seven others before taking his own life, police said.

Gunfire erupted during a 7 p.m. CDT (0000 GMT) showing of the film "Trainwreck". The incident took place almost three years to the day after 12 people were killed at a cinema in Aurora, Colorado.

Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft said two people died in the hail of bullets before the 58-year-old suspect killed himself with a handgun as officers rushed to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Seven people were wounded, three of them critically, authorities said. One person underwent surgery and "was not doing well," Craft said.

Authorities said they knew the gunman's identity but were not releasing his name during the early stage of the investigation. They offered no immediate motive and did not disclose any clues they might have found.

"The shooter is deceased. We may never know," Craft said, adding that the man appeared to have a criminal history that he described as "pretty old."

Police officials said that bomb-sniffing dogs had picked out a backpack inside the Grand 16 Theater and that they had also signaled "suspicious" items inside the suspect's car. A robot was being used to probe the vehicle further.

Investigators also headed to the gunman's home. His body remained inside the theater several hours later. None of the victims, who were described as ranging in age from teens to early 60s, were immediately identified by authorities.

Witnesses said the gunman abruptly stood up in the darkness of the theater about 20 minutes into the movie and began shooting.

"He wasn't saying anything. I didn't hear anybody screaming either," Katie Domingue, who was watching the film with her fiance, told the local Advertiser newspaper.

Remembering 11yo Ephraim Brown EIGHT years after his death in #Toronto #Canada

My condolences to the entire family in Toronto and New Foundland, Canada. I have NOT forgotten that day July 22nd 2007 eight years ago today when little 11yo Ephraim Brown was gunned down by rival gang members who were acquitted after they opened fire on each other at Ephraim's cousin's birthday party. I was living in canada 2007-2012 and just arrived at the time. My blog is dedicated to him as you know.

Why Military Security Experts Know That Arming All Troops Is Not the Answer

Most armed service members are not trained to neutralize active shooters, and putting more loaded guns in their hands creates its own risks.

The argument that all military service members should be armed with guns to protect themselves — proffered by GOP presidential candidates Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, and Donald Trump in the wake of the shooting deaths of four Marines and a sailor last week in Chattanooga, Tennessee — is so basic that there’s not much argument to it at all. Railing against “gun-free zones” last Friday, Trump summed the case up in this way: “This sick guy had guns and shot them down. These are decorated people. These are people who could have handled guns very easily. They would have had a good chance if they had a gun.” In making their cases, the presidential hopefuls echoed a Connecticut car repairman whose shop is near a military recruiting office, who told the Associated Press that arming its occupants made perfect sense to him. “Most of them are trained infantrymen,” the repairman asserted. “That definitely would make it a lot more safe.” They’re military, they know how to use guns, how could we not have every one of them be armed all the time, just in case?

Barack Obama Orders flags lowered on White House after being ripped over Chattnooga Marine massacre

Should the White House not have lowered flags for the US Marines shot to death in Chattanooga? Americans got angry and finally Obama lowered the flag. That was plain common sense! In a proclamation issued early Tuesday afternoon, Obama said of the Chattanooga victims, "We honor their service. We offer our gratitude to the police officers and first responders who stopped the rampage and saved lives. We draw strength from yet another American community that has come together with an unmistakable message to those who would try and do us harm: We do not give in to fear. You cannot divide us. And you will not change our way of life."

He ordered flags flown at half-staff at the White House and "all public buildings and grounds," as well as over military posts and naval stations and vessels -- until July 25. Flags will be flown at half-staff at U.S. embassies and other overseas diplomatic offices.
