A 17-year-old boy was killed and a 20-year-old man was wounded during a shooting late Friday in the Englewood neighborhood, police said.
The man and the teen, identified as Torri Williams of the 9000 block of South Laflin Street, were standing on the corner of 64th and South Justine streets when the shooting happened, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
A shooter exited a parked white Cadillac, walked over to the corner and opened fire, hitting the boy in the chest and the man in the arm, police said.
The teen was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, police said.
The man's condition had stabilized at Holy Cross Hospital, according to police.
Latresee Williams, the mother of Torri Williams, said she was with her son when the shooting happened.
She said she and Torri Williams arrived in the 6400 block of South Justine Street to visit Torri's grandmother, just moments before someone fired shots.
"My son was an innocent bystander," Latresee Williams said Saturday afternoon. "He was killed ... because of some bulls-- some guys in the neighborhood were into."
Ron Williams, the uncle of the 17-year-old, said he was also in the area when the shooting happened. He said he heard about six to seven gunshots.
"(Torri) was a good kid. He wasn't into any trouble," Ron Williams said.
No one was in custody, and Area South detectives are investigating.
At least 18 others have been wounded in shootings since Friday night at 9:45 p.m.:
-At 8 a.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old man walked into Stroger with a gunshot wound to the left leg, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department. The man said he had been walking about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side when he heard shots and felt pain. He was in good condition.
-At 7:15 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of West 108th Place in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, a 23-year-old man was shot in the left forearm and right index finger, Estrada said. He told police he was riding his bike when someone in a green sedan fired at him. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
-At 7 a.m. Saturday, a 33-year-old man walked into Stroger with a gunshot wound to the hand, Estrada said. He told officials he was shot earlier, about 5:30 a.m., in the 5600 block of South Prairie Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side. His condition had stabilized.
-At 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of North Clybourn Avenue in the Cabrini Green neighborhood on the Near North Side, someone inside a passing dark-colored car opened fire, hitting a 21-year-old man in the arm, Estrada said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
-About 4:30 a.m. Saturday, 17-year-old boy walked into Mount Sinai Hospital after being wounded in a shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, said Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Bari Lemmon. The teen was in the 3600 block of West Douglas Boulevard when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck, Lemmon said. He suffered a graze wound to the back and was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai, Lemmon said.
-At 3:37 a.m. Saturday in the 4500 block of South Paulina Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, a 22-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when someone inside a dark-colored car pulled up alongside him and fired shots that hit him in the right shoulder, Estrada said. He was taken to Stroger, where his condition had stabilized.
-At 3:15 a.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of West Division Street in the Wicker Park neighborhood on the Near North Side, a 21-year-old man was shot in the foot. He was at a house party when a fight erupted inside, and one of the attendees pulled a gun and shot him, Estrada said. He was the only one wounded, Estrada said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
-At 3:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of West Lexington Street in the Pilsen neighborhood on the South Side, a 40-year-old man was standing on a residential porch when he heard shots and was struck, Estrada said. He was wounded in the right shoulder and right leg and was taken to Stroger, where his condition had stabilized.
-About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were wounded in a shooting in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, Lemmon said. The two were standing outside in the 400 block of North Springfield Avenue when they heard gunshots and realized they were struck. The 22-year-old was shot in the leg, and the 17-year-old was struck in the foot, Lemmon said. The 22-year-old was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized, Lemmon said.
-At 2:38 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of East 93rd Street in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side, a 23-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when he heard gunshots and was struck, said Estrada. He was wounded in the arm, chest and thigh and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
-At 2:36 a.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of South Damen Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times while standing on a corner, Estrada said. He was taken to Advocate Christ in serious condition.
-At 11:40 p.m. Friday in the 4900 block of North Kenmore Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood on the North Side, a 19-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle parked in an alley when an attacker approached him.
Police said words were exchanged over parking in the alley between the two.
Then the attacker pulled out a semi-automatic handgun. The victim started driving away when he heard a shot and realized he was struck.
He was hit in the back of the head and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized.
-At 11 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of North Mozart Street in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, a 34-year-old man who was driving suffered a graze wound to the forearm, Estrada said. He was treated at the scene.
-At 11 p.m. Friday in the 6600 block of South Bishop Street in Englewood, two people were shot. A 21-year-old man was shot in the wrist and taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition had stabilized, while a 20-year-old man was shot in the thigh and buttocks, said Estrada. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition had stabilized.
-About 11 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the arm in the Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side, Lemmon said. The man was in the 5300 block of South Drexel Avenue when two male attackers came out of a vehicle and fired shots, Lemmon said. The man was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
-About 9:45 p.m., a 34-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, Lemmon said. The man was outside in the 4700 block of West Superior Street when he heard gunshots and realized he was shot in the leg, Lemmon said. He was treated at Norwegian American Hospital and was later released, Lemmon said.
