Overnight Shootings: 2 dead 5 injured in #Chigago

Two men were killed and five other people have been wounded in separate shootings Friday on the South, Southwest and Near Southwest sides.

Most recently, a 21-year-old man was shot to death and another 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting about 11:45 p.m. in the University Village neighborhood, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

The two men were standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of West Grenshaw Street when someone in a dark-colored van pulled up and fired shots, Alfaro said.

The man who died was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Alfaro said.

The other man was hit in the arm. His condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital, Alfaro said.

Police officers found 12 shell casings and one bullet at the scene of the shooting.

Early Saturday, officers blocked off a section of Grenshaw between Lytle Street and Racine Avenue with yellow crime tape. A white party bus stood inside the crime scene.

Police said the man who was shot to death ordered the bus moments before he was shot. The dashboard camera on the bus captured footage of the van the shooter used.

No one was immediately in custody as a result of the shooting.

Another fatal shooting happened about 11:55 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood.

Police responded to a call of shots fired and found a 47-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his head, arm and legs, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

In other shootings:

A 53-year-old woman was wounded in a shooting about 8:40 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, Alfaro said.

The woman was with a group of people on the porch in the 5700 block of South Morgan Street when an unknown attacker in a gray vehicle traveling north on Morgan fired shots, Alfaro said.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the back and two gunshot wounds to the left arm. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

The incident appeared to be gang-related, but it wasn’t immediately clear if the woman was the intended target, police said.

At 6:55 p.m., a 29-year-old man was wounded in the 1500 block of West 19th Street in the Pilsen neighborhood, police said.

The man was coming out of a vehicle when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck. He was shot in the right leg, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 6:18 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was shot in the West Englewood neighborhood.

The woman was a passenger in a vehicle in the 1600 block of West 68th Street when she was shot in the back, Alfaro said.

She managed to get to Holy Cross Hospital. She was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.

A 26-year-old man was shot shortly after 4 p.m. in the 7600 block of South Ingleside Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, Sweeney said.

He suffered a wound to the leg, and drove himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.

No one was in custody for any of the attacks, and police were investigating.
